Dr Joanna Curwen, MBChB, MRCPsych, Bsc (Hons) Psychology
Consultant Psychiatrist
Dr Joanna Curwen qualified as a doctor in 1997 from Manchester Medical School and has an additional degree in Psychology.
She completed her post graduate psychiatric training in London, becoming a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in 2003. She has worked as a consultant psychiatrist in the NHS since 2013.
She is registered with the General Medical Council for both working age adults and working with adults with substance misuse.
She has a wide range of experience from working in London, North Derbyshire, and Sydney, Australia, and in a wide range of settings- inpatient, community, liaison, addiction, forensic, perinatal, learning disability and CAMHS.
Dr Curwen has been working as a community consultant in Central London since 2017. Her main areas of interest are treatment of common mental disorders, such as anxiety disorders, depression and post-traumatic stress disorder, in addition to severe and complex enduring mental disorders, such as schizophrenia and bipolar affective disorder. Additionally, she has experience of working with people with ADHD and autism.
Dr Curwen is a keen proponent of trauma informed care and relational psychiatry. She has trained in open dialogue and was the clinical lead for her community team in the national ODDESSI trial. In her spare time, Dr Curwen enjoys spending time with her friends and family.
In her spare time, she enjoys cycling, wild swimming, reading good books and cooking.
