Dr Jo Wood is a Consultant Counselling Psychologist specialising in mental health and sports and exercise psychology. Jo has extensive clinical experience after spending 17 years working in the NHS in both primary and secondary care, working with adults, young people, couples and families. Previous roles have included providing clinical leadership and supervision to a wide range of mental health professionals. Following her initial psychology training at City University, Jo completed further post-graduate CBT training at Oxford and is an accredited CBT and Schema therapist, as well as a Consultant EMDR practitioner. She also has had training in Mindfulness and ACT.
Dr Jo Wood has experience of working with a wide range of clients, including amongst others, those from the legal profession, banking, IT, the media and sport. Jo is able to work with a wide range of issues and specialises in trauma, anxiety disorders, adjustment/transitions, complex presentations, eating disorders, personality disorders and performance. She provides both short and long-term therapy.
Dually accredited as a Sports and Exercise Psychologist, Jo has worked with professional/elite athletes from a range of sports including rugby, cricket, athletics, boxing, swimming and gymnastics. Jo also has experience of working with younger athletes in academy settings and GB development squads. As part of her work, Jo has helped athletes with performance anxiety issues, sports trauma, adjustment to injury and retirement, as well as athlete mental health.
In her spare time, Jo enjoys being outdoors, spending time with her family (including two dogs), powerlifting and completing a PhD focusing on identity leadership.
