Dr Emily Patel is a Clinical Psychologist with a broad range of experience offering mental health assessment and treatment, primarily within the NHS. She is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC) and is a Chartered Member of The British Psychological Society (BPS).
Dr Emily Patel specialises in offering short and longer-term psychodynamic interventions, including Dynamic Interpersonal Therapy. This approach has a primary focus on an individual’s difficult feelings in relation to significant relationships and stressful situations, and identifying how patterns can be repeated. It is grounded in attachment theory.
Emily has extensive experience working with individuals affected by past and more recent trauma, stress/burnout, anxiety, depression/low mood, functional or somatoform disorders (such as chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia and persistent physical pain), and who experience significant interpersonal difficulties. She particularly enjoys working with people who have already tried other psychological interventions, such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, but who may have derived limited benefit and are open to trying a more exploratory approach to help understand and manage their difficulties.
