Dom Merchant MBACP, AP ADAP – Cognitive Psychotherapist
Dom Merchant is a BACP registered Cognitive Psychotherapist with a particular focus on metacognitive and mindfulness-based approaches. Having initially studied Human Sciences at Oxford, Dom trained in Addiction Psychology and Counselling at London South Bank University. He graduated with distinction and is currently undertaking Masterclass training with the Metacognitive Therapy Institute. He is an Advanced Practitioner member of Addiction Professionals (formerly FDAP).
Dom’s main clinical interests are anxiety disorders, ADHD, and addictive behaviours of all kinds, and he aims to help clients relate to their thoughts and behaviours in more helpful ways. Alongside his practice, Dom is a PhD researcher at the Centre for Addictive Behaviours Research at LSBU where he also provides counselling skills, safeguarding and resilience training.
He has worked in both luxury private settings and the prison system, and continues to provide reflective practice and resilience support to frontline teams in a men’s prison and a special educational needs school in East London.
Away from work, Dom enjoys swimming, sailing, kitesurfing and most other water-based activities. He completed a Channel relay swim for charity after leaving school, but is not built for cold water!
