Psychological Resilience in Sport

This is turning out to be a remarkable year for LPP in sport. We were honoured to be the On-Call Psychiatry and Psychology Specialists to the London 2012 Games, supporting the Polyclinic at the Olympic Village. It was fantastic to be able to work effectively with Olympic Athletes from around the world struggling with the pressures of competing in the global spotlight. Words fail to convey the excitement of being part of the widely praised volunteer network that helped to produce such a smooth running and successful Games.

Whilst preparing for the Games, we were pleased to conclude the acquisition of Performance Healthcare. As a result, LPP have expanded their provision of confidential helpline services from the Rugby Players Association to the League Managers Association, the Professional Cricketers Association, the Rugby Football League and the Welsh Rugby Players Association. In so doing, our national network of clinical psychologists has expanded to over 60 clinicians across England, Wales and Scotland.

As part of the process of acquiring Performance Healthcare, LPP are delighted to have secured the services of David Raines, who becomes our Head of Business Development. David, who has a wealth of experience in Health Service Management and for the last 7 years has been developing the range of helpline services to the professional sports community commented, “This new partnership within LPP is a natural progression of that development and enables LPP to provide improved geographical coverage and a broader range of top class psychological expertise. Our aim is to become the nation’s leading provider of preventative and treatment psychological services in sport.”

Dr Philip Hopley, Managing Director of LPP Consulting said, “This is a tremendous development for LPP. We are delighted to welcome David onboard and we have already made a seamless transition to running the additional confidential helplines under our brand. In addition we have started to deliver workshops on mental health awareness and psychological resilience for our new clients. We welcome the current focus on mental health in sport and were delighted to support the PCA in their creation of the ‘Mind Matters’ section of their website.”
